Strategy

Our initial strategy was to have very good land that acts as a superb environment for wild life. As this requires grazing by both sheep and cattle at low densities we have gone for rare breeds and pedigree animals. We have added to this by a clear objective to make the farm pay for itself. The notion is to sell top class animals as premium breeding stock or as a premium meat product - direct to end customers. To aid us in this endeavour we have got together with a couple of other local farmers with a complementary set of live stock (e.g. rare breed pigs) and hired a top class butcher to take our animals and produce excellent meat.

To assist the farm's profitability we diversified into holiday cottages very successfully for a number of years until family illness caused us to stop them. They are now used as long term rental for estate workers. We also use our Function Room for off-site meetings, training events etc, farm walks and educational visits
