Animals on the farm

The farm has two main types of animals. These are cattle and sheep. The mains reason we got them in the first instance was to graze the old pastures and other grassland. This is required to keep and improve the wide diversification of flora and fauna. The primitive sheep we have are also good for clearing scrub land.

That being the case we decided to have premium interesting animals - hence the Aberdeen Angus cattle and rare breed sheep. In 2004 we also started a herd of Devon Ruby Reds.

The chickens were purely brought on as an essential part of any farm - the sound, the eggs and occasional bird for our pot. We have now added guinea fowl and hope to get some peacocks soon.
