The Lodge
The main gate lodge, which lay empty for thirty to forty years, has been restored and new gates have been made for both entrances to the farm. The main reason was that the road camber was changed and this caused water to flood into the house. A 40 year dispute between the owners and the council was only finished when we bought the place. All attempts by the road authorities to drain water from the road onto the field in Fowlescombe was thwarted by the previous owners - on principle and based on an act of parliament in the 1930s which showed the road camber sloped to the fields on the opposite side of the road
The Lodge was re-build was architect designed by Harrison Sutton of Totnes and built by Jenkins and Pengelly of Blackawton, Devon and has been greatly admired. It sits along side a pair of listed gates, with great granite posts. The Lodge is an integral part of the Estate, and may be used for any purpose of the owners.

The previous owners put many signs up - this was the last remaining. They had the rights to keep them up - we still have this one, just in case :-) |

Finished entrance - notice that if the water now comes up below the gates, the driveway acts as a high volume drain. There are now five other drains to remove the surface water - have have worked successfully without problem for over ten years |
