LadyDown

Part way through 2003 the opportunity came to acquire part of Ladywell farm. This new land was renamed as Ladydown, the previous owner retaining some land , the house and the old name. We have sold off the dairy parlour, and replaced the large dilapidated cubicle barn with a modern cattle barn, and repaired the other barns. The land is ideal for finishing both sheep and cattle

In fact the name Ladydown is shown on an 1842 Tithe Map, above, for the Ugborough parish - so is in fact the older name.

The land had previously been an excellent dairy farm. We are now managing it the same way as the rest of Fowlescombe i.e. as organic, and have put some fields into arable. We mainly use the land for the cattle finishing and using much of the remainder for the production of silage.
