The starting point
There are various constraints and restrictions on the estate, some of
which are statutory, some because of agreements that have been put in place,
some voluntary and others defined by the owners. These include:
Habitat
Habitat maintenance for specific species
may impose restrictions or constraints on what can and cannot be done,
when and how. Such conflicts are to be discussed with the Rangers and /
or owners to derive a sensible resolution.

Listed Buildings regulations
Affected areas are the Lodge gates, the bridge and the listed ruins of
the mansion.
Countryside stewardship
A Countryside Stewardship
agreement between the owners and DEFRA describes in detail what must be
done at certain times on certain parts of the estate, and what cannot be
done. There are constraints about spraying, cultivating and other things
that would go against the environmental objectives of the plan. It also
covers times when certain parts of the estate cannot be used for grazing
or other purposes.
Health and safety
Health and safety of individuals
is paramount. To that end the estate is to be run bearing in mind health
and safety at all times, including periods of pressure to complete jobs.
This will be for the owners, staff, builders and any other contractors
or visitors that may come onto the estate for time to time.
Historical aspects
The estate will be used in such a manner as to minimise the impact
on key areas of historical interest. In some cases renovation may take
place with relevant advice and supervision, in others simple maintenance
of the status quo will be undertaken.
Organic farming
The farm is certified organic with the Soil association.
Environmental constraints
In general environmental
considerations will outweigh farming considerations. We hope to come under
the rules of the Soil Association
Farm Assured, Green Tourism and Organic
We have farm assured status, which
requires high standards of animal care, process, equipment and other constraints. Green Tourism covers the way we utilise and generate power, reuse, etc. Oraganic is a whole set of standards, in our case certified by the Soil Association.

Farming regulations
These are governed by DEFRA
and change regularly!! e.g. Conversion from grass to arable requires
an environmental impact statement and approval
Buildings and ruins
Certain work may need to
be done giving due care to the ruins or other buildings. e.g. The work
on and around the pond must be after the bridge has been fully repaired.
