Barn owls being ringed

David from the Barn Owl trust inspected the box and found four young with their mother. He also found the father in another box about 600 metres away

They later managed to raise three, which was very good for the year as the weather was not good.

David Ramsden from the Barn Owl Trust goes to collect the mother barn owl - he is qualified to do this

Bringing it down the ladder, with its head hidden to stop it being frightened

David notes down the details and re-rings the bird

He keeps it in a bag to keep its head in the dark

Checking the box. While doing this he jambs a sponge into the entrance to stop the birds getting out, later he can pull the orange cord to release it

Jon holds the bird while David phones back to base to check the old ring identity

Checking the chicks

They really smell !!!

David puts the mother back
