Barn owls in flight

Barn owls in flight at 3.00 p.m. 21st July 2004

We were amazed to see three barn owls in flight in the barns this afternoon. We suspect that they were hungry, as last night's hunting would have been very poor due to inclement weather

We think that the mother was there with two chicks. The mother barn owl knows me (Richard) very well, to the extent that I can chat to it from 5 or 6 meters away during the evening. They did not mind the camera, even when it flashed. Four of us were stood in the barn during all the photographs below. Photographs by Richard Barker, using a Canon Digital camera with add-on flash gun.
